ConsignEngine is browser-based and works with ordinary counter equipment through browser and operating-system interfaces. Exact devices still need a real-store acceptance check.
Model numbers matter.
Share the computer, scanner, printer, label stock, cash drawer, and terminal details before a purchase or rollout.
How hardware connects
Scanner and printer setup.
01
Counter computer
Browser workflow
How it works
ConsignEngine runs in a modern web browser. Use a computer with a stable internet connection and enough screen space for register work.
Acceptance check
Test the exact browser, operating system, network, and screen used at the counter before opening day.
02
Barcode scanner
Expected with rehearsal
How it works
The register accepts a scanned control number in its search field. Scanners configured to enter the barcode as keyboard text are the practical starting point.
Acceptance check
Confirm the scanner enters the complete code once and sends the expected finishing key without changing browser shortcuts.
03
Item labels
Proven default stock
How it works
The proven default is Spartan Industrial R005: 2″ × 1″ labels, 40 labels on an 8.5″ × 11″ sheet. An opt-in generic 2″ × 1″ thermal browser-print preset is also available, but it is not a blanket printer-compatibility promise.
Acceptance check
Print at 100% scale with browser headers and footers off. Test the exact sheet or thermal printer, then scan several labels before printing a batch.
04
Receipt printer
Expected with rehearsal
How it works
Receipts use the browser print dialog and a compact print layout. The printer must already be available to the counter computer through its operating system.
Acceptance check
Confirm paper width, margins, legibility, cut behaviour, and the full customer-facing receipt on the intended printer.
05
External card terminal
Separately operated
How it works
ConsignEngine records a completed external-terminal payment and its provider reference. It does not send the charge to, or remotely control, the terminal.
Acceptance check
Set the provider name in store settings and rehearse the staff handoff between ConsignEngine and the separately operated terminal.
Recommended starting setup
Start with a simple counter setup.
One reliable counter computer and internet connection
A keyboard-mode barcode scanner
A printer tested with the R005 label sheet at 100% scale
A receipt printer already configured on the computer
A separately operated card terminal with staff procedures
Not currently supported
Hardware features that are not built in.
Automatic control of a card terminal from ConsignEngine
Automatic cash-drawer opening
A certified compatibility claim for every scanner or printer
Correct label alignment without a 100% scale test print
Uninterrupted operation without a stable internet connection
